Super Easy, Very Flattering
I've now made over a dozen variations of this dress. This dress pattern has basically taught me how to sew!! I've added vertical center piping to the top front placket, double ruffles to the bottom, french pleats to the sides, elastic to the straps, etc. The basic pattern alone offers so much flexibility with three fabric choices!! With the added elastic to the back, you can easily create a fitted top which flatters beautifully. I do recommend a narrower elastic on little children, as it is easier to pull on and off and feels more comfortable. I used a wider elastic on several dresses for my older daughter though, and that created a more flat/fitted front (she's so tiny it looks great with her body type). I love it and have used quilting cottons, voile and lawn, as well as gauze. All have come out beautifully. I have tried various ways of sewing on the elastic and serging the seams. I have to say that the way the original pattern is written still produces the best overall product. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS PATTERN!!!! If there's one constructive criticism, I'd have to say it's a bit on the long side, but that's easy to alter by sewing on the bottom ruffle higher on the dress and having a serger cut the extra fabric off or simply cutting it off with a rotary cutter.
